The Big Bang

Image
When we look at the scientific evidence supporting the Big Bang  theory, we should ask ourselves whether that supports or discredits the Christian worldview and understanding of Creation. God's revelation is visible to us in both inspired revelation in scripture and in general revelation explained in Psalm 19: The heavens declare the glory of God,     and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech,     and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words,     whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth,     and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,      which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,     and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens,     and its circuit to the end of them,     and there is nothing hidden from its heat. ...

Is God Unable or Unwilling to Stop Evil and Suffering?

Image
Introduction One of the most popular objections to Christianity raised by nonbelievers is the existence of evil.  If God is all powerful and loving, why does He allow evil?  Did God create evil?  Is God really not powerful enough to stop evil, or is He really not as good as Christians claim? God's Judgment Why won't God put a stop to evil? The quick answer is that He has already done that, many times, as recorded in the Bible. Noah Genesis chapters 6-8 records the well-known story of Noah and the flood. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord....

Common Objections to Christianity

Image
There are several common objections to Christianity raised by skeptics that all too often go unanswered.   As Christians we have a moral obligation to provide answers to help others avoid foolishly closing their minds to the truth.  T he Bible teaches us to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have, but do this with gentleness and respect."  (1 Peter 3:15, NIV).  It is my hope that the summaries provided here will help equip believers to be prepared with an answer and to help skeptics to see that these objections do have answers. Objection:  Evolution not creation, explains all life Is it true that science has advanced to the point where we can know for a fact that life and all its forms are just random accidents? When you look at Darwin's theory of evolution in light of modern scientific discoveries, it  quickly falls apart. The conditions previously thought to have existed on the...

Does Evolution Explain All Life on Earth?

Image
Introduction Many kids have walked away from the faith taught by their parents after learning in school that life appeared and evolved through natural, unguided processes. Many adults have defended their atheistic faith by pointing to evolution as having examined away the need for a supernatural creator.  Is it true that science has advanced to the point where we can know for a fact that life and all its forms are just random accidents? Let's take a look at Darwin's theory of evolution in light of modern scientific discoveries.  Origin of Life Before discussing the origin of new species, we should look at the origin of life itself.  Could life have originated through purely naturalistic, unguided means, or was there an intelligent creative force involved? Abiogenesis (Spontaneous Origin) A longstanding theory holds that the conditions on the early Earth included the right combination of compounds in the oceans and atmosphere to react, possibly powered by electrical discha...

When was Revelation Written?

Image
Introduction Dating the book of Revelation has always been difficult. Internal evidence suggests a date before the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the second Jewish Temple in 70 AD. However, there is a brief statement by one credible external source that has been understood my many to suggest that the book was written around 95 AD. Why does it matter? In apologetics, we seek to address tough questions that can be a stumbling block for seekers and/or new or spiritually immature believers.  The prediction of Jesus to His disciples on the Mount of Olives regarding the destruction of the Temple and the "signs of the end of the age" recorded in the gospels have parallels to Revelation. Jesus said that what he was discussing would take place in "this generation," which did happen , but was Jesus referring to something similar but different than John was describing? Was Jesus wrong about the time, or at least misleading? I believe that the evidence overwhelmingl...
